 Srinath Balachandran (photo, on The Hindu website), founder and director of Choco-la, is living proof that it is possible to transform a childhood passion into a successful business. He also proves that Pondicherry is not the sleepy town that one imagines, but that it is right in the middle of the great Indian economic boom, offering all the products and services imaginable to millions of consumers.

 L'histoire d’Aruna Schwartz est extraordinaire, exemplaire de ce que pourraient être les relations franco-indiennes en matière de soutien financiers aux PME de pointe. Aruna est la CEO de Stelae Technologies, une start up créée en France en 2002 autour d’un logiciel qui permet d'analyser et de structurer des documents numériques à partir de technologies XML.

 Aux USA, ils ont Bill Gates, heureux entrepreneur fortune qui décide de consacrer la deuxième partie de sa vie à utiliser intelligemment sa fortune au service des plus pauvres. N’en déplaise aux afficionados de l’open source, que l’on trouve jusqu’à Pondicherry, Microsoft n’accouche donc pas que de bugs ou d’une vision hégémonique du monde.
L’Inde ne manque pas de ces fabuleux entrepreneurs qui se retirent avant l’heure pour promouvoir les femmes, les enfants, ou les initiatives économiques au service de leur pays. C’est même un trait distinctif du capitalisme indien, cette confusion entre famille et entreprise, cette volonté de réussir aussi dans une perspective de développement social. Nadathur S. Raghavan (photo), l'un des fondateurs d’Infosys, est l’un d’entre eux. Il a quitté Infosys en 2000 et utilisé son image, son réseau, ses compétences et sa fortune pour lancer à Bangalore un incubateur au sein de l’institut de management de Bangalore (NSRCEL à l'IIMB, www.nsrcel.org) et un fonds de capital risque dédié aux jeunes start up de l’internet et des télécoms, OJAS. Rappelons nous aussi que Tata avait à l’époque créé le Taj Hotel de Mumbai pour que les anglais ne soient plus les seuls à profiter de l’hôtellerie de luxe. J’en reparlerai surement un de ces jours, mais je préfère zoomer aujourd’hui sur une autre personnalité, nettement moins connue, et qui fait un peu le parcours inverse. This post is still in french.  Aurelien Lugardon (photo, with Naskeo team), president of Naskeo, told me this morning about a scienfical cooperation between a french sme and indian researchers. Naskeo is a young and succesful enterprise specialised in highy innovative and technological solutions for energetic valorisation and organic products such as methanisation.

 Juliette discovered india in 1995, at 21, for a rough travel all over india with an ngo. From now on, she never stop trying to connect her activities with india. When she met Marianne and his husband, she found the way to create clothes for children in France and product them in a factory close to Delhi. They create their own tissues and design and produce really french/indian clothes. Moreover, they organize each year a private selling dedicated to an initiative of children insertion in Kolkata (http://www.calcuttadelaruealecole.org).
I met Juliette on an interesting network for foolish peoples, dreamshake !
